Coral Gables Senior Center: Chinese Calligraphy

Coral Gables, Florida. October 20, 2010. "I'm never coming back, mine look like worms", said Ardyce Grevior a 84-year-old student in the Wednesday Chinese Calligraphy class at the Coral Gable Senior Citizen Center. It was the first time Grevior had tried Chinese Calligraphy, and she was frustrated with the results, "I'm never going to be good at it." Photo by Lindsay Brown.

Coral Gables, Florida. October 20, 2010. Yvonne Kaspar receives a piece of Chinese calligraphy artwork from instructor Dorothy Cheng. Cheng who has 30 years of experience in Chinese calligraphy helped finish Kaspar's painting, but Cheng emphasized that it was the strong foundation that Kaspar painted that allowed her to finish it so beautifully. Kaspar wanted to get into calligraphy because she thought it was so "distinctive" and because, "I love all sorts of things I have no talent in." After extensive traveling financed by working in education and real estate, Kaspar is now in her sixth calligraphy class at the Coral Gable Senior Citizen Center. Photo by Lindsay Brown.
